Big PuzzleAddicts meeting in Las Palmas, 29, 30 and 31 January 2016, to participate in The Reto 2016 - Puzzle Challenge in Canary Island. Organized by the Spanish Association of Puzzle "Aepuzz", the Canary Association of Mathematics Teachers "Isaac Newton" and "The Cabildo* Insular of Grand Canary" - *Island Canary Council (each of the canary island is governed by its own Cabildo). Clementoni, Lifer toy store and Coca Cola supported the event.
In addition to the challenge, there were other activities: exhibitions, workshops and conferences.
The challenge was to Assemble 100,000 pieces, by doing 100 jigsaw Puzzle Clementoni 1000 piece each. In just 24H!
69 Jigsaw Puzzle lovers participated … in 15 teams
The challenge was big, impressive, ambitious, considering the number of parts to be assembled to the number of participant.
After 12 hours, half of the challenge (50,000 pieces) was not reached, but the delay did not affect the troop-morale, and all participants worked twice as hard to succeed.
the last leg of the challenge
Two hours before the end, some preferred not to start a new puzzle and chose to join and help the other teams to complete the puzzles in progress. Result, More than 20,000parts assembled during those 2 hours.
The atmosphere was so high that it was possible to hear outside of the building, the public’s encouragement from the inside, who was here to support the event and cheering the teams enthusiastically.
After 24 hours, 77 Puzzles completed, others in progress, for a total of 83.466 pieces!
In a strictly numerical way, obviously the 100,000 pieces in 24 hours are not achieved. But, and that is a goog new, it open the door to a new try. And on the other hand if we consider everyone's commitment, the organization of the meeting, from a qualitative point of view, we can say that the objective has been largely exceeded!
And finally, the most important in this adventure, it's not the 100,000 pieces challenge, but rather the 69 smiles from ear to ear (look like they slept with a hanger in their mouth*) and 69 pairs of sparkling eyes.
Congratulations to all and see you soon for a new challenge!
