Sunday 17 of January took place the 2nd Jigsaw Puzzle Championship of Grézieu-le-marché

Saturday, January 16, 2016, the Grézieu-le-marché school was abuzz. A workshop for parent volunteers pre-cut packages of puzzle to the sewing machine, bending puzzles, collect and distribute lots, make plans, prepare the room contest, make pancakes and candy brochette….

But Phew! Everything was ready for the big day !!!!!!!

Indeed 02 PM on Sunday, 17 January 106 teams were all waiting with a big impatience to discover their puzzle. At the start signal each team unpacks his haste puzzle.
Concours Puzzle 2016 - Grezieu le Marché (1)The 10 teams of "mini mini" (small-small) were pleased to discover the Lion King, they had to agree two team mates to make the puzzle of 48 pieces on the carpet. And when you are 3 or 4 years it’s quite a challenge.

The 5 teams "mini" (small) have done brilliantly a 100 pieces jigsaw puzzle about Pacman.

No spirit of competition for these young children, but what a joy to announce your name to the microphone when you finished and especially the pleasure to receive the applause of adults.

After, of course, toddlers were able to go relax in the games room under the supervision of parent volunteers, to color in, play Kapla, create his own diploma, sing...  And after the break, each team returned to work to make his second puzzle!

Meanwhile...Concours Puzzle 2016 - Grezieu le Marché (5)

The 16 junior teams have shown tenacity to successfully complete their jigsaw puzzle about dinosaurs, with a little help for some, but, all had finished on time.

The 34 mixed teams (one child and one adult) found a 500 piece puzzle filled with treats but what horror ! All the candy seems to be the same, the task has been rather difficult.

The 39 amateur teams have been working on a 500 pieces portrait during 2h30 of the competition. They have put all their energy to succeed.

Our 2 teams of experts were surprised to discover two jigsaw puzzles of 500 pieces, each, mixed together, one of which without model.

An afternoon under the sign of good humor, friendliness, exchange, mutual assistance ... Each child has won an envelope with free entrance for our sponsors and all the teams went back with their jigsaw puzzle (finished or not) as gift.

Many have pledged to be trained even more better for 2017.

    ...Thanks...

Since four year now, Günther Simetsberger has been organizing the World Puzzle Day in Facebook. This is an original event, which allows all jigsaw puzzle lovers to be reunited around the same virtual table to complete puzzles.

    Affiche World Puzzle Day 2016

    • Anyone having a Facebook account may register. The event will begin on 1st January 2016 at exactly 00:00, and will end on 29th February at 24:00. During these two months, participants from all over the world will complete puzzles of 1000, 2000, 3000 or 4000 pieces while staying at home.

    • The only requirement is to regularly post pictures on Facebook to show the progress of the puzzle, and of course a photo of the puzzle once completed! Günther will take care of the very regular update of the statistics, so everyone will be able to follow the progress of the event.

    • In order to avoid some "cheating" (I do not see the advantage, as we do not gain anything and it is purely for fun...), we will have to add in the pictures an object which nature will be revealed only at the last moment, this will be the proof that the puzzle was indeed completed during those two months and not before.

We are puzzled ! will participate this year for the second time. Last Year Cathy was the only representative from Belgium, and she completed 3 puzzles of 2.000 pieces.

This year we will participate as a team and try to contribute a bit more to the final score. In 2015, there were 643 persons registered and 1.266.412 parts assembled in total. Will we succeed to do better this year?

We find the idea very original and above all immensely friendly: how bring together people from all horizons, cultural backgrounds, language, religion and gender, without prejudice and without discrimination? Simply by forgetting the differences and bringing closer those passionates around a common hobby that has no boundaries.

Nothing better than a weekend with friends to try a challenge and have a good time! Two champions and two novices take up the challenge of the Round Puzzle "Global playground Puzzle"

During the last week-end of November, some friends came to visit us and brought us a round jigsaw puzzle sold by Unicef. We have decided to make it in turns and give you our opinion... Cathy

    Patrick's words

    P1070284

First, I have been pleasantly surprised by the quality of the puzzle. I was expecting that a product sold for a charity purpose would have reduced costs for reduced quality, but this was not the case. The pieces interlock very well. The quality is similar to the one from Clementoni’s round puzzles, so very good.

The picture of the puzzle is very colourful and nice, I enjoyed a great deal doing this puzzle.

The only slight drawback I would comment on, is the age indicated « +8 years ». A 500 pieces puzzle seems to me already quite difficult for this age, but a 500 pieces round puzzle is even more complicated than a classic square puzzle, so I would not recommend it for children so young.

Apart from this, I strongly advise to buy this puzzle, it’s for a good cause…

    Cathy's words

    IMG_1488

I loved to assemble this puzzle. It is of very good quality, the drawing is fun and colourful. We were curious and we timed our individual performance. While I got entangled in the yellow central part full of small figures and details, Patrick on his side got behind doing the more uniform parts of the blue sky. Our complementarity was demonstrated, as it took each of us exactly 1h55 to finish the puzzle!

I would tend to think this puzzle is not adapted for children 8 years old, but as I don't have tested with children, maybe I am mistaken…

    somebody else wants to try?

The puzzle comes with a poster showing the drawing with the real dimensions, so it is possible and helpful to complete it right above the image.

Anyway it is a beautiful and generous gift, to be made urgently to your love ones  🙂

    Words from the Neophytes

After Cathy and Patrick "the experts", it’s our turn the "+8 years (our ages total 8 years 😉 ) to experiment the puzzle "Schools around the World" from UNICEF ... and sincerely we have loved to do it: the pieces are of very good quality, very colorful and with a really nice design.

Starting with the rounded edge may not be the right tactic, never mind! So what? let's continue with the very simple center, the UNICEF logo. Then each school, a little bit of yellow, some green, oh the beautiful blue, and we discover the various amusing scenes that take shape, a little bit more of yellow and the blue sky ...

What a thrill, here is our first-4-hands-puzzle, right there before our eyes. Can we frame it?

The task seems a bit difficult for a 8 years old child but this is a great opportunity to share this moment with the family, undoubtedly young and old will spend a great time. In addition it is an UNICEF initiative, so do not hesitate! Go for it!

followed by the second team, who ended in 3 hours 40mn and the 3rd team in 4 hours 40mn.

    Day 2 - Sunday

14 teams had to deal with a 1000 pièces puzzle by Educa rather difficult, "Mickey's Nightmare",

It took 7 hours 30 to the first team to finish the puzzle.

The organizers decided to count the remaining parts of the other teams' puzzles in order to determine which teams would take 2nd and 3rd place.

By the end of these two days of competition, all teams went back home with a head full of good memories, the puzzle they had done, and quite itchy to participate in the next edition of the contest.

A short film by Victorien Boutin.

Since 2009, the town of Niort organises TaKaVoir*, the "Digital Mobile Movies and Art Festival"

A smartphone, a tablet, a pocket camera and  that's it,  you only need a touch of talent, an artistic feeling, a story to tell and go for it, you can propose your own short film.

Only one rule, images must be filmed with mobile phone and non profesional camera (see regulations. Competition is open exclusively to films created with mobile phone and/or non profesional digital cameras that fit in a hand).

PUZZLE, one of the short films in competition received the 2014 internauts Prize.
The plot is a tribute to the "film noir" atmosphere of the 50's american movies and the rythm while the jigsaw pieces fit together is amazing. TaKaVoir* !

It was such a beautiful weather on Saturday in Brussels, we wanted to make the most of it. However we were somewhat tired after our working week and did not want to be very active. Furthermore, quite a long time had passed since we last made a puzzle, and the tips of our fingers were starting to itch… How could we reconcile all those “constraints” in a satisfactory way?
